About Me
Katy Locklear is the 19 year old daughter of Ira and Kathy Locklear of Lumberton, NC. Katy is a Junior at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where she is an Elementary Education Major with a concentration in reading. Not only a student on campus, but she is also a member of many organizations. As a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity, Katy holds the position of Fraternity Education. The Native American Student Organization plays a big role in her schedule as she holds the position of state representative for the organization. Her newest membership on campus includes becoming Miss UNC-Pembroke 2009. On January 29th in Givens Performing Arts Center, Katy won the prestigious title of Miss UNC-Pembroke, and will have the opportunity to compete for the title of Miss North Carolina in June. During her reign she will be promoting her platform Breast Cancer Awareness "Early Detection is the Best Protection." Currently Katy has raised money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, as well as the Robeson County Mammogram Fund. Promoting her platform in the community is extremely important, as they are the foundation of what she believes in. Katy has participated in the Charlotte, NC Race for the Cure, and in June will compete in the 5k Race for the Cure in Raleigh, NC. It is imparative to raise money and donate time to her platform, with the state of economy our soceity is in today. Along with promoting her platform is she also promoting Miss America's platform the Children's Miracle Network. It is her goal to raise over $250.00 for this organization.
